Simple harmonic motion.

Answer:- A particle may be said to execute a simple harmonic motion if its acceleration is proportional to its displacement from its equilibrium position, or any other fixed point in its path, and is always directed towards it.

Foucault's pendulum.

Answer:- A Foucault's pendulum is just a simple pendulum, with a massive bob carried by a very long wire suspended from a rigid support, so as to have equal freedom of oscillation in any direction.

Damped oscillation.

Answer:- When a body oscillates in the presence of resistive medium, then oscillation gradually die down & finally the amplitude becomes zero these oscillation called damped oscillation.

Compound pendulum.

Answer:- A pendulum which has distribution of mass inbetween the point of suspension and centre of gravity is called a compound pendulum.Compound pendulum may possess any shape regular or irregular. If the body is in the shape of a rectangular bar,The pendulum is known as a bar pendulum.Given figure is an example of bar pendulum,

What is logarithmic decrement ?

Answer:- The ratio between two successive amplitudes of the oscillation is referred to as the logarithmic decrement for that motion or oscillation.

What is power dissipation ?

Answer:- In damped oscillation, there is gradual decrease of energy against the dissipative forces like force of friction such as air resistance, viscosity etc hence the rate of energy dissipation is called power dissipation.

What is periodic motion ?

Answer:- A motion which repeat itself after a regular interval of time is called periodic motion. Osicallatory motion is a special case of periodic motion in which the particle move to & fro. And SHM is the special case of Oscillatory motion in which the particle move same displacement in either side of the mean position.
