Isoelectronic principle.

“Isoelectronic molecular species (I.e species having same number of atoms and same number of total valence electrons) have similar molecular orbitals and similar molecular structure.”

Bond order.

It is defined as the number of covalent bonds in a molecule.Bond order is equal to one half of the difference between the number of electrons in the bonding (Nb) and anti-bonding (Na) molecular orbitals.   I.e Bond order =1/2 (Nb-Na)

Molecular orbital.

Answer:- Molecular orbitals may be defined as the regions in space in which an electron is most likely to be found.The molecular orbital with lower energy is called bonding molecular orbital (more stable).The molecular orbital with higher energy is called anti-bonding molecular orbital.

Back bonding.

Answer:- This type of bonding occurs between atoms in a compound in which one atom has lone pair of electron and the other has vacant orbital placed adjacent to each other.

Hybridization.

Answer:- Hybridization is the concept of intermixing of the orbitals of an atom having nearly the same energy to give exactly equivalent orbitals with same energy, identical shapes and symmetrical orientations in space.

Bond enthalpy.

Answer:- Bond enthalpy is defined as the average value of bond dissociation enthalpies of the same type of bonds present in the molecule.

Bond length.

Answer:- Bond length is defined as the average distance between the centres of the nuclei of the two bonded atoms in a molecule.

What is orientation ?

Answer:- The process of determining the particular site or sites in a molecule where the reaction is most likely to occur is known as orientation.

Electrovalent linkage.

Answer:- The compounds which are formed by the transference of one or more electrons from one atom to the other are called electrovalent or ionic compounds and the type of linkage is called electrovalent linkage.

Why carbon tetrachloride is non-polar though C-Cl bond is polar ?

Answer:- As dipole moment is a vector quantity, the dipole moment of polyatomic molecule depends upon the geometry of the molecule.Though there are four C-Cl  polar bonds in carbon tetrachloride, it has no dipole moment as the vector sum of the individual C-Cl bond moments is zero.

Pairing energy.

Answer:- When two electrons are placed in the same orbital, considerable repulsion takes place among these electrons.To overcome this repulsion and keep together these electrons in the same orbital extra energy is needed.This energy which is needed for pairing of electrons is called pairing energy.

Dative bond.

Answer:- A dative bond is formed when an atom in a molecule or ion with complete octet donates its pair of electrons to the other atom. It is known as Co-ordinate or Dative bond.

What is the cause of chemical bonding ?

Answer:- The presence of one or more unpaired electrons (half filled orbitals) in the valence shell of an atom is the cause of the chemical bonding.

What is Hydrogen bonding ?

Answer:- Electrostatic force of attraction between hydrogen atom of one molecule and a highly electronegative element (such as F, O & N) present within the same molecule or another molecule of the same or different compounds is known as hydrogen bonding.In water their exist hydrogen bonds.

What is Dragoes molecule ?

Answer:- The molecule in which the central atom belongs from 3rd to 6th period element and their is atleast one lonepair of electron on cental atom then that molecule is called Dragoes molecule.  e.g AsF3, Here As(Arsenic) belongs to 4th period element and their is also a lone pair of electron on arsenic atom.so it is a Dragoes molecule.
