In order to achieve population inversion, we must have an energy state which has a long lifetime i.e electron can stay there for sufficiently long time such an energy state is called as metastable state.

Explanation:- The variation in the amount of gas adsorbed by the adsorbent with pressure at constant temperature can be expressed by means of a curve termed as adsorption isotherm. According to freundlich isotherm,     The extent of adsorption of a gas per unit mass of adsorbent depends upon the pressure of that gas.
